I received good news. I passed the ServSafe class that I took recently. The class provides certification on food service safety. The material covered safety throughout the entire flow of food process, from purchasing to serving.
Including second guessing whether I want to eat out anymore, the class impacted me in another way. Let me tell you what I mean. Sections of the class focused on personal hygiene. Makes sense right. No fingers in the food. Wash hands after using the restroom. Protect food from being contaminated by sneezing, fingernails, open wounds etc. All the things you’d expect. If not controlled, these natural things can cause food borne illnesses endangering many, especially the young and elderly.
What struck me was this — our bodies are always shedding “things” that should someone eat it could lead to sickness and possibly death. It’s natural for the body to shed and give off particles but there’s no life in those particles, only corruption. They’re not meant to be eaten.
But with Christ, there is no corruption – only life. At Christmas we celebrate his life that was born without the touch of corrupting man. At Easter, we celebrate that He won out over death’s corruption and now shares his everlasting life with us. It’s not just safe to partake of his flesh (and drink of his blood), its actually life giving. Apart from Christ, all that we have to offer each other is decay. Christ as our life giver and sustainer allows us to overflow life to others. (John 7:38) Let us all – feast on!
